Synopsis
Based on the autobiographical novel by Neel Doff, Keetje Tippel follows the life of a young woman from a destitute family in late 19th-century Amsterdam. To escape poverty and support her family, Keetje turns to prostitution. The film is a raw and unflinching portrait of social inequality and survival, and it remains one of Verhoeven's most controversial early works.
